“The Russian government has submitted to the State Duma for ratification a protocol to the temporary agreement leading to the formation of a free trade zone between the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran, dated May 17, 2018. The document was published in the Duma’s electronic database on Thursday.
“”The protocol to the temporary agreement leading to the formation of a free trade zone between the Eurasian Economic Union and its member states on the one hand, and the Islamic Republic of Iran on the other hand, dated May 17, 2018, signed in Tehran on March 14, 2022, shall be ratified,”” the document states.
The temporary agreement, which entered into force on October 27, 2019, provides for a preferential import regime for a limited range of goods.
The temporary agreement, the validity of which is extended by the protocol, establishes the basic rules of trade between the EAEU and its member states and Iran, which are as close as possible to the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO). This includes, in particular, the application of protective measures and customs administration.
“”Commitments are made to abandon the use of quantitative bans and restrictions on the import of goods subject to liberalization and to establish basic WTO standards in relation to veterinary, sanitary, and phytosanitary measures, and technical regulation for such goods with respect to the limited range of goods listed in the agreement,”” according to the explanatory materials accompanying the document.
