“A roadmap for activating and enhancing trade and economic interaction between the EAEU countries and China was signed during a meeting of the Joint Commission on the implementation of the agreement on trade and economic cooperation. The meeting was held on Thursday in a video-conference format, chaired by Andrey Slepnev, a member of the Board (Minister) for Trade of the EEC, and Li Feya, the Deputy Minister of Commerce of China.
“”The document includes three sections: digitization of transport corridors, dialogues on foreign trade policy issues, and joint scientific research on the effects of different scenarios for deepening cooperation between the EAEU and China,”” the EEC explained.
“”The measures of the first section provide for a phased transition of the parties to electronic document exchange in freight rail transportation using an electronic digital signature. I am confident that this will significantly simplify trade procedures and accelerate the transportation of goods between our countries,”” the Minister of the EEC commented on the signing of the roadmap.
It is reported that the development of cooperation in the customs sphere, as well as in the field of veterinary and phytosanitary control, is also envisaged. In the field of sea and road transport, it is planned to exchange experience between the parties in the field of electronic logistics information.
“”The second section of the roadmap is aimed at forming a sustainable dialogue on trade policy issues that have a significant impact on international trade. With the Chinese side, such areas for discussion for 2023-2024 have been agreed upon, such as the climate agenda, strategies for the development of foreign trade between the EAEU and China, international practice of applying measures to protect the domestic market, and e-commerce,”” the press service added.
“”Finally, the third section provides for a comprehensive analysis by scientific circles of the EAEU and China of the effects of different scenarios for deepening trade and economic cooperation between the EAEU, its member states, and China,”” they said.
At the meeting of the joint commission, the parties thoroughly discussed issues related to technical regulation, the application of sanitary and phytosanitary measures, customs cooperation, competition, and market protection measures. “”Special attention was paid to the implementation of the sectoral agenda. In particular, it was agreed to hold joint events this year to study the prospects for cooperation in the areas of government procurement, industry and finance, as well as veterinary and phytosanitary cooperation,”” noted the Eurasian Economic Commission.
“”We agreed to support the development of the ‘Eurasian Agroexpress’ project aimed at accelerating the transportation of food products from the EAEU to China by rail. The project is of particular importance in the context of diversifying the range of goods supplied from our union and increasing trade turnover with China, which exceeded $200 billion by the end of 2022,”” said the Minister of the Eurasian Economic Commission following the meeting.
